[Feature] JAL’s New International Airbus A350-1000: A Closer Look at the Premium Economy Class with Spacious Seating
Japan Airlines (JAL) has chosen the inaugural flight for its 10th Airbus A350-1000 (registration: JA10WJ) to be on July 29, heading from Tokyo/Haneda to Dallas as flight JL12.
The aircraft departed from Airbus’ factory in Toulouse, France, on July 17 and arrived at Haneda Airport the following day, July 18.
The Airbus A350-1000 is set to become the new international flagship aircraft, succeeding the current mainstay for international routes, the Boeing 777-300ER. It features a four-class cabin layout with a total of 239 seats: First Class with a “1-1-1” configuration comprising 6 seats, Business Class with a “1-2-1” configuration offering 54 seats, Premium Economy Class with a “2-4-2” configuration having 24 seats, and Economy Class with a “3-3-3” configuration providing 155 seats. For the first time, JAL’s First and Business Classes will include enclosed suite-type seats. In-flight entertainment (IFE) across all classes includes 4K resolution monitors and the capability for wireless headphone connection via Bluetooth.
A total of 13 units have been ordered, with the first unit arriving at Haneda Airport on December 15, 2023, followed by the second on January 15, 2024, third on March 31, fourth on August 1, fifth on August 11, sixth on October 3, eighth on December 7, ninth on January 30, 2025, and seventh on April 24. The same model began operation on January 24, 2024, serving destinations such as New York, Dallas, London, Paris, and Los Angeles.
