Sendai Airport Runway Closed Due to Tsunami Warning
Okinawa Prefecture will change the name of Shin-Ishigaki Airport to “Ishigaki Airport” starting from August 7.
This change is based on the amended ordinance concerning the establishment and management of Okinawa Prefecture’s airports, which was approved by the prefectural assembly on June 25. Opened in 2013, the airport was formerly referred to as “Shin-Ishigaki Airport” to distinguish it from the old Ishigaki Airport. Considering a significant period has passed since its operational start, the name will be revised to “Ishigaki Airport” in line with the amendment of the Airport Law Enforcement Ordinance. The Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) will also be updated on the same day, and the report has already been submitted to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The airport’s nickname, “Painushima Ishigaki Airport,” will continue to be used.
