AirAsia X to Launch Flights to Istanbul, Granted Air Traffic Rights
Hawaiian Airlines will suspend its Fukuoka-Honolulu route as of November 19.
This decision is part of a strategy to reshuffle trans-Pacific routes and strengthen international and domestic flights to and from Hawaii, where demand is high. Additionally, the Honolulu-Seoul/Incheon and Boston routes will also be suspended.
Hawaiian Airlines CEO Joe Sprague commented, “Decisions regarding route suspensions are always challenging. Despite our exhaustive efforts, the persistent challenges following the pandemic and various market issues have led to continued difficulties in Fukuoka, Seoul, and Boston. We will continue to provide robust service connecting Asia and Hawaii through direct flights, such as those from Tokyo and Osaka. With this network reorganization, we are committed to meeting the increasing demand for flights to Hawaii, both international and domestic, providing our customers with access to more destinations.”
Passengers with bookings on the Fukuoka-Honolulu route will likely be offered rebooking or refunds.
The route was inaugurated in November 2019 and was the only direct flight connecting the two cities after Delta Air Lines withdrew about five years prior. Services had been suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, before being resumed in April 2023.
