Emirates Introduces Airbus A350-900 on Dubai-Bologna Route
Japan Airlines (JAL)’s 17th Airbus A350-900 aircraft (Registration: JA17XJ) arrived at Haneda Airport on August 17. The delivery of this model is the first since the 16th aircraft (Registration: JA16XJ) on April 25, 2022, approximately 3 years and 4 months ago.
The aircraft was received in Toulouse, France, where Airbus has its final assembly line, on August 14, local time. The ferry flight JL8102 departed Toulouse on the 16th at 8:19 PM and took off at 8:35 PM. It landed at Haneda Airport on the 17th at 4:24 PM and arrived at spot 214 in front of the hangar at 4:28 PM. Pre-service maintenance will be conducted from the 18th.
JAL’s domestic A350-900 aircraft have two cabin configurations, “X11” and “X12”, allowing seat numbers to be adjusted based on demand and timing of heavy maintenance. X11 has a seating configuration of 369 seats, consisting of 12 First Class seats, 94 Class J seats, and 263 Economy Class seats. X12 has a configuration of 391 seats, with 12 First Class seats, 56 Class J seats, and 323 Economy Class seats. JA17XJ was delivered in the X12 configuration.
JAL had placed a confirmed order for 18 A350-900 aircraft in 2013. All but one, up to the 16th aircraft, had been delivered, but due to the total loss of the 13th aircraft (Registration: JA13XJ) in an accident at Haneda Airport in January 2024, an additional aircraft was ordered as a replacement. According to JAL, the replacement aircraft is not the JA17XJ received this time but is expected to be the 18th aircraft.
Meanwhile, there are plans to introduce the A350-900 for international routes starting from the fiscal year 2027, with a purchase agreement for 20 additional aircraft separate from those for domestic use.
