DHL Supply Chain Builds Logistics Center Near New Chitose Airport
The South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, along with the Ministry of Justice, will trial a special immigration lane for foreigners entering for business purposes starting August 31.
The initiative targets individuals recommended by six economic organizations: the Federation of Korean Industries, Korea Federation of SMEs, Korea Employers Federation, Korea International Trade Association, American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM), and EU Chamber of Commerce in Korea. It will be implemented at Incheon International Airport until December, with plans to expand to Seoul/Gimpo and Busan based on the operational results.
The average time for immigration processing is approximately 2 minutes with the automated gate for Korean nationals, and 5 minutes (up to 24 minutes) using manned lanes. In contrast, foreigners, who only have access to manned lanes, face an average wait time of 24 to 35 minutes, extending up to a maximum of 92 minutes. Economic organizations had requested improvements on June 13.
In the medium to long term, the initiative aims to allow foreigners access to automated gates as well.
