Two Japanese Nationals Shot Dead in Manila; Suspect Escapes on Motorcycle
Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) has issued a spot advisory urging caution regarding protests occurring across Indonesia, which were sparked by opposition to members of parliament’s allowances and related benefits.
Given the ongoing violent clashes between police authorities and demonstrators, MOFA warns that the protests could further intensify and become prolonged. It also notes that opportunistic disorderly and unlawful acts are occurring amid the protests, and advises Japanese nationals to avoid non-essential outings and to stay away from areas around the national and local parliaments in Indonesia, as well as police facilities.
MOFA further urges people to obtain the latest information, take steps to ensure their own safety, and consider stockpiling supplies such as water, food, and fuel.
