Japan Airlines (JAL) will change the mileage accrual rules when using same-day upgrades on domestic flights within Japan, effective for travel on and after December 1.
Currently, when traveling on a fare eligible for mileage accrual, JAL adds 10% miles for upgrading from Economy Class (standard seat) to Class J, and 50% for upgrading to First Class. From flights on December 1 onward, miles will be accrued based on the fare and class of the originally purchased ticket.
For international flights, miles are already accrued based on the fare and class of the originally purchased ticket when using upgrade awards, bid upgrades, or same-day upgrades at the airport.
