Uber has begun offering its taxi-hailing service, Uber Taxi, using the Uber app in Japans Yamanashi, Fukui, Gifu, and Okayama prefectures as of September 17.
The service areas are: in Yamanashi PrefectureKofu City, Fujiyoshida City, Yamanashi City, Kai City, Fuefuki City, Koshu City, Chuo City, Showa Town, Oshino Village, Yamanakako Village, Narusawa Village, Fujikawaguchiko Town; in Fukui PrefectureFukui City, Tsuruga City; in Gifu PrefectureGifu City, Takayama City, Seki City, Mino City, Hashima City, Minokamo City, Kakamigahara City, Yamagata City, Mizuho City, Hida City, Motosu City, Kani City, Ginan Town, Kasamatsu Town, Sakahogi Town, Tomika Town, Shirakawa Village, Mitake Town, Kitagata Town; and in Okayama PrefectureOkayama City, Kurashiki City, Hayashima Town. With this launch, the service has expanded to 35 prefectures in Japan.
Riders can request a taxi via the Uber app by entering their pickup location and destination, checking an estimated fare based on the meter and the estimated time of arrival, and then getting matched with a taxi.
