Potential Large-Scale Strike at South Korean Airports During Chuseok (Sep 19–Oct 9)
Airport Authority Hong Kong said significant disruption to operations at Hong Kong International Airport is expected due to Typhoon No. 18 approaching Hong Kong.
Impacts are expected from 6:00 p.m. on September 23 through September 24. The airport’s three runways are expected to remain in operation, and the terminal buildings will stay open. Temporary rest areas for passengers will be set up, with drinking water, light snacks, blankets, and other supplies provided. Some restaurants will operate 24 hours. Travelers are urged to check the latest flight status before heading to the airport.
If Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or above is in force, transportation between the city and the airport is expected to be affected. A taxi queue ticketing system will be in operation, allowing users to take a queue ticket at kiosks or via the app. According to the Hong Kong Observatory, Signal No. 8 is likely to be issued sometime between around 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. on September 23.
For staff, shuttle buses will run between the airport and Tung Chung, and staff rest areas will be set up to help ensure sufficient staffing.
Cathay Pacific has decided to cancel all flights to and from Hong Kong from 6:00 p.m. on September 23 to 6:00 a.m. on September 25. Some flights arriving and departing on the morning and afternoon of September 23 will also be affected. Hong Kong Airlines has canceled 30 flights between Japan and Hong Kong from September 23 to 25.
