U.S. CBP to Raise ESTA Fee to US$40 from September 30
The Embassy of Japan in the Maldives has cautioned travelers that Maldivian authorities have been refusing entry on the grounds that passports are damaged.
There have been cases where travelers were denied entry because the plastic IC page was slightly chipped or because a torn page had been repaired with tape. In these cases, travelers had been admitted to other countries, but in the Maldives they were returned to their point of departure or to Japan at the authorities’ discretion.
The embassy advises applying for a new passport if any of the following apply: the entries on the passport cannot be identified; even a single page is missing; the passport has been cut or separated with a cutter or scissors; the visa pages are torn; notes or scribbles have been made on visa pages; the laminate is peeling; or the IC page is damaged.
