
JAL to End Hawaiian Airlines Codeshare and Mileage Partnership on April 21, 2026; Shift to Alaska Airlines
A cargo aircraft from Dubai to Hong Kong veered off the North Runway during landing at Hong Kong International Airport at around 3:53 a.m. today, October 20, and plunged into the sea.
The aircraft involved was Emirates flight 9788 (Boeing 747-400, registration TC-ACF), operated by ACT Airlines of Turkey.
The aircraft collided with a patrol car belonging to an airport security company that had been on patrol on the perimeter road outside the runway, and fell into the sea. Two security guards were found inside the patrol car and were both found dead. The four crew members of the cargo aircraft were rescued by firefighters.
According to the Airport Authority Hong Kong, which operates Hong Kong International Airport, the weather conditions at the time of the accident were within safety standards. The patrol car was conducting monitoring at the designated post in accordance with prescribed procedures. Due to the accident, the North Runway has been closed. The other two runways remain in operation, and flight operations are not affected.
