Honolulu’s Skyline Opens Phase 2 with Airport Station
In Japan, JR Central (JR Tokai) and JR West will suspend the non-reserved seat option on Nozomi services on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen during the year-end and New Year period, operating them as all-reserved.
The measure will be in effect from December 26 through January 4, 2026. It applies to all Nozomi trains operating on the Tokaido/Sanyo Shinkansen between Tokyo and Hakata. Passengers holding a non-reserved seat limited express ticket may board and stand in the vestibule areas of Standard Class cars, but even if seats are empty they may not sit.
Under normal operations, Cars 1 and 2 on Nozomi trains are non-reserved. Services such as Hikari and Kodama will continue to offer non-reserved seating as usual.
JR Central will also operate the limited express Shinano, Hida, and Nanki as all-reserved during the same period. It has scheduled 16 additional Shinano limited express services mainly for the year-end/New Year period.
