Tokyo to Impose Temporary Traffic Restrictions During Trump Visit, Oct 27–29
The Metropolitan Expressway (Shuto Expressway) in Tokyo, Japan, has completed the renewal of the Route 1 Haneda Line (downbound) section between Higashi‑Shinagawa and Samezu, and will switch traffic to the renewed alignment from 1:00 a.m. on October 29 (JST).
Approximately 1.9 kilometers between the Higashi‑Shinagawa Pier and Samezu reclaimed section on the Haneda Line has been under renewal since 2016 to ensure long-term durability and future maintainability. The upbound lanes were completed in June 2020, bringing the project to completion roughly 10 years after it began.
In conjunction with the switch, lane restrictions will be in place from 7:00 p.m. on October 28 to 6:00 a.m. on October 29 (JST). In the event of severe weather, the work will be postponed to the same hours on the following day(s).
Around spring 2026, on Saturdays and Sundays, the downbound lanes will be closed in order to switch the upbound route from the temporary detour to the renewed alignment. In addition, the connection at Oi Junction (JCT) will also be switched.
