The Chinese government will extend the visa-free policy for Japanese nationals holding ordinary passports until December 31, 2026.
The measure aims to further promote people-to-people exchanges between countries and applies to stays of up to 30 days for business, tourism, visits to relatives and friends, exchange visits, and transit. Those entering for purposes that do not meet the visa-free conditions—such as study or employment—must continue to obtain a visa prior to entry.
In addition to Japan, the eligible countries are France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Ireland, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Slovenia, Slovakia, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Andorra, South Korea, Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, Latvia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
Sweden was also added to the visa-free program as of November 10.
