Taiwan Railways suspends Pingxi Line until January 30, 2026; bus replacement between Ruifang–Jingtong
Kyoto’s Sagano Scenic Railway in Japan will introduce a new sightseeing trolley train in spring 2027.
The train will be a five-car set consisting of one locomotive and four passenger cars. Compared to existing cars, it will feature increased seat pitch and wider aisles, with glass ceilings and sides to create an open interior. Part of Car No. 4 will have a special bench-style compartment for groups. Four-language onboard information displays will also be installed.
The design concept blends the gorge scenery of Hozukyō, the nostalgia of steam-era journeys on the former San’in Line, and the atmosphere of Sagano and Arashiyama in Kyoto. The logo carries forward the traditional design while weaving in a circular motif of bamboo leaves that symbolizes autumn foliage, cherry blossoms, clear streams, historic civil-engineering tunnel heritage, and bamboo groves.
The design is supervised by GK Design Research Institute Hiroshima (GK Design Soken Hiroshima). The current rolling stock is scheduled to retire after revenue service in 2026.
