JA732J, Japan Airlines’ (JAL) second Boeing 777-300ER airframe, retired on November 20 after operating its final flight.
As replacement aircraft for medium- to long-haul international routes, JAL has ordered 13 Airbus A350-1000s, matching the number of its 777-300ERs. Of these, it has already taken delivery of 10 aircraft, from the first (registration: JA01WJ) to the tenth (JA10WJ), and is phasing out the 777-300ER fleet. One aircraft (JA734J) retired on August 20, 2024; the second (JA731J) on May 27, 2025; and the third (JA735J) on September 9, 2025. JA732J is the fourth to retire.
JA732J wears the oneworld alliance livery of the alliance to which JAL belongs. The cabin is configured with a total of 244 seats: 8 First Class “JAL SUITE” seats in a 1-2-1 layout; 49 Business Class “JAL SKY SUITE” seats in a 2-3-2 layout; 40 Premium Economy “JAL SKY PREMIUM” seats in a 2-3-2 layout; and 147 Economy Class “JAL SKY WIDER” seats in a 3-3-3 layout.
The final flights were JL51 from Tokyo/Haneda to Sydney on November 19 and JL52 from Sydney to Tokyo/Haneda on November 20. JL51 pushed back from Spot 112 at 7:19 p.m. on the 19th and arrived in Sydney at 6:43 a.m. local time on the 20th. The return JL52 departed Sydney at 9:15 a.m. the same day and arrived at Haneda Airport’s Spot 108 at 5:03 p.m.
JA732J will now undergo retirement maintenance and is expected to leave Japan. As a result, JAL’s 777-300ER fleet is down to nine aircraft.
