Japan Airlines (JAL) will change the eligibility for same-day upgrades on domestic routes and airport standby to JAL Mileage Bank members only, effective for travel on and after today, December 18.
Same-day upgrades and airport standby can be requested from 3 hours before departure until 20 minutes before departure on the day of travel via the official website or mobile app. If the desired class is fully booked, the request will be accepted as a standby.
The fares eligible for same-day upgrades are Flex, Saver, Special Saver, Round-Trip Saver, Shareholder’s Discount, Promotion, JAL Card Discount, Business Flex, Remote Island Discount, Designated Route Remote Island Discount, JAL Domestic Award Tickets, JAL Card navi Discount, “Dokokani Mile” (Japan domestic mystery destination award), and Inclusive Individual Tour Fares.
The upgrade fee varies by route: from Economy Class to Class J it ranges from 1,100 yen to 3,300 yen, from Economy Class to First Class it ranges from 12,100 yen to 15,400 yen, and from Class J to First Class it is either 9,900 yen or 12,100 yen.
The fares eligible for airport standby are Flex, JAL Card Discount, Business Flex, Shareholder’s Discount, Remote Island Discount, and Designated Route Remote Island Discount.
