Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced that some flights will be cancelled due to damage sustained by one of its aircraft (Airbus A350-1000, registration: JA10WJ) while it was parked at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, United States.
Around 12:40 a.m. on December 14, the right wing of another airline’s aircraft, which was being towed, came into contact with the JAL aircraft that was parked at its designated position for maintenance. The impact damaged the left cockpit window and other areas. According to Radarbox, the aircraft had operated as Flight JL4 from Tokyo/Haneda to New York/John F. Kennedy on December 3 and has remained parked at John F. Kennedy Airport since then.
A total of 12 flights between December 23 and 31 will be cancelled, and 2 flights on December 22 will operate with delays of up to approximately 5 hours and 45 minutes. Two flights on December 23 that are subject to cancellation will have replacement flights. On six flights between December 25 and 29, the aircraft type will be changed to a Boeing 777-300ER. JAL had already announced that 16 flights would be delayed between December 19 and 22.
