Taiwan Railways suspends Pingxi Line until January 30, 2026; bus replacement between Ruifang–Jingtong
Tsugaru Railway has suspended the operation of passenger cars used for its “stove trains” on the Tsugaru Railway Line, following an incident on December 29 in which the coupled sections of an ordinary local train became separated.
A four-car ordinary local train consisting of two Tsugaru 21-series diesel railcars and two passenger cars departed Tsugaru Iizume Station on schedule at 2:51 p.m. Immediately after departure, near the Zencho-sendomichi level crossing, the coupler connecting the two leading diesel cars and the two rear passenger cars detached, causing the brake pipe to separate and triggering the emergency brakes on all cars.
In response to this incident, the stove train passenger cars will no longer be coupled on the section between Tsugaru Goshogawara and Tsugaru Nakasato, and trains will instead be operated using only the diesel railcar “Run, Melos!” (Hashire Melos-gō).
As a measure in response to the suspension of stove train services, the passenger cars normally used for the stove trains will be stabled on Track 4 within Tsugaru Goshogawara Station. They will be opened to the public free of charge, with the coal stoves lit inside so visitors can enjoy the unique atmosphere. Opening hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
