Ryukyu Air Commuter (RAC), a regional airline based in Okinawa, Japan, will increase the number of flights on the Miyako–Tarama route and the Okinawa/Naha–Miyako route in February.
There will be an additional 20 flights on the Miyako–Tarama route and 7 flights on the Okinawa/Naha–Miyako route, for a total of 27 extra flights. The aircraft used will be the DHC-8-400CC type.
On January 23, the Okinawan newspaper Ryukyu Shimpo reported that on the Tarama–Miyako route, use by so-called “pilgrims” traveling frequently to accumulate miles and receive benefits has been increasing, causing disruptions to the daily lives of local residents.
