Air India Places Additional Order for 30 Boeing 737 MAX Aircraft

Air India has placed an additional order for 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The order consists of 20 Boeing 737-8 and 10 Boeing 737-10 aircraft, following on from the order placed in 2023, through the exercise of options.

On domestic routes within India and short-haul regional routes, Air India will leverage the operational reliability, fuel efficiency, and range flexibility of the Boeing 737-8. At the same time, it will maintain operational commonality with the larger Boeing 737-10, enabling the airline to carry a high number of passengers at the lowest cost among single-aisle aircraft. As a result, Air India’s Boeing backlog has expanded to approximately 200 aircraft.

According to Boeing, demand in India and South Asia will total about 3,300 aircraft over the next 20 years, 90 percent of which will be single-aisle aircraft.
