“Issuance of 2025 Passports” Begins, Processing Time Due to Centralized Printing
The United Kingdom Home Office will make the acquisition of an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) mandatory from February 25.
Among travellers from countries that do not require a visa, those staying in the UK for 6 months or less for purposes such as tourism, visiting relatives, or studying, those staying for 3 months or less under the Creative Worker visa concession, those staying for permitted professional activities (Permitted Paid Engagement), and those transiting through the UK are all subject to this requirement. Travellers who have not obtained an ETA will not be allowed to board their flight.
The fee is £16, and the processing time is within 3 business days. The validity period is 2 years, or until the passport expiry date, whichever comes first. Once obtained, the ETA can be used for multiple entries without limitation during its validity period. However, a new application is required when the validity period expires or when a new passport is issued.
Those who already hold a visa or permission to reside, work, or study in the United Kingdom, holders of passports from British Overseas Territories, and those who are outside immigration control such as diplomats and their families, are exempt from this requirement.
