Marriott International and MKK will open “Moxy Matsumoto” in fiscal year 2027 in Matsumoto City, Japan.
The hotel will be a conversion of the former main building of Inoue Department Store, which operated until March 2025. It will offer 222 guest rooms. The social space “Moxy Bar” will provide 91 seats, and a “Moxy Kitchen & Pickup” will be introduced to cater to takeout needs. The property will also feature a fitness room and a self-service laundry room.
MKK, headquartered in Matsumoto City and engaged in hotel, real estate, and golf course businesses, had previously announced that it would acquire the land and building in October 2025 and planned to attract an international hotel brand. The company has a proven track record in revitalizing former Inoue Department Store annex Bel Mall 25.
The hotel is approximately a 5-minute walk from JR Matsumoto Station. Positioned as a gateway to destinations such as Kamikochi and Hakuba in Japan’s Northern Alps region, it is expected to serve year-round as a base for outdoor and adventure activities.
