Following the deterioration of the situation in the Middle East, the second charter flight arranged by the Japanese government has arrived at Narita Airport from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Operated as Ethiopian Airlines flight ET8405, the service used a Boeing 787-9 aircraft (registration: ET-AYD). It departed Riyadh at 8:00 p.m. local time on March 9 and arrived at Narita Airport at 6:18 a.m. on the 10th. According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 281 Japanese nationals wishing to leave Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia were on board. Three members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Emergency Response Team (ERT) also took part in implementing this departure support operation.
The aircraft was the same one used for the charter flight that transported Japanese nationals from Muscat, Oman. After arriving at Narita Airport on March 8, it headed to Riyadh via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
In addition, the Japanese government is planning to operate a charter flight with Emirates, departing Dubai around 11:00 p.m. on March 10. It is expected to arrive at Haneda Airport in Tokyo on the afternoon of the 11th.
