Qatar Airways Continues Suspension of Regular Flights, Operates Relief Flights to and from Doha
As tensions in the Middle East worsen, a government-chartered flight arranged by the government of Japan has arrived at Narita Airport from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Operated as Ethiopian Airlines flight ET8407, the service used a Boeing 787-9 aircraft (registration: ET-AYD). It departed Riyadh at 8:26 p.m. local time on March 10 and arrived at Narita Airport at 1:38 p.m. the following day, March 11. According to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in addition to 160 Japanese nationals wishing to depart from Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, 12 foreign nationals including South Koreans were also on board, making use of remaining seats based on reciprocal cooperation regarding assistance for their own citizens. Four members of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Emergency Response Team (ERT) were also involved in carrying out this evacuation support.
This is the third Ethiopian Airlines charter flight operated under arrangements by the Japanese government. In addition, a charter flight operated by Emirates from Dubai to Tokyo/Haneda also arrived today, the 11th.
On the 12th, a charter flight operated by All Nippon Airways (ANA) from Muscat to Tokyo/Haneda via Mumbai is scheduled, and on the 13th, a charter flight operated by Ethiopian Airlines from Riyadh to Tokyo/Narita is planned.
