Hong Kong Customs Uncovers Record-Breaking Smuggling of Precious Metals to Japan
JALUX has made JAL-DFS a wholly owned subsidiary.
The company acquired the 40% of issued shares held by its joint venture partner DFS Holdings, representing all of DFS Holdings’ shares in JAL-DFS. As of April 1, the company name will be changed to JALUX Travel Retail.
JAL-DFS was established for the purpose of operating duty-free shop businesses at Narita Airport in Japan. It later expanded into Haneda Airport in Tokyo, and currently operates the duty-free shops “JAL DUTYFREE” at both airports. In response to increasingly diverse customer needs and changing consumer behavior, and to strengthen mutual collaboration within the group’s airport retail business through integration with JAL’s “JAL Mile Life Infrastructure” initiative, the partners decided to proactively terminate the joint venture agreement.
Going forward, JALUX will work on acquiring, accumulating, and analyzing customer data, and, under centralized management, will link this data with membership platforms such as the JAL Mileage Bank frequent flyer program. The company aims to implement personalized marketing and provide a smoother customer experience by utilizing tools such as mobile apps. It will also pursue the expansion and launch of overseas duty-free stores, the development of proprietary procurement routes, agile store operations, and the effective use of group resources.
