
JAL and JTA to Maintain International Fuel Surcharge Levels for April–May 2026 Tickets
Japan Airlines (JAL) has raised its same-day domestic upgrade fees, effective today, April 1.
The fee increase applies to upgrades from Economy Class or Class J to First Class. The fee for upgrades from Economy Class to Class J remains unchanged.
The same-day upgrade fee from Economy Class to First Class will increase as follows: on Tokyo/Haneda–Osaka/Itami, Hiroshima, Kagoshima routes and Osaka/Itami–Okinawa/Naha route from 12,100 yen to 13,200 yen; on Tokyo/Haneda–Sapporo/Chitose, Fukuoka routes and Osaka/Itami–Sapporo/Chitose route from 14,300 yen to 15,400 yen; and on Tokyo/Haneda–Okinawa/Naha, Miyako, Ishigaki routes from 15,400 yen to 18,700 yen.
The same-day upgrade fee from Class J to First Class will increase as follows: on Tokyo/Haneda–Osaka/Itami, Hiroshima, Kagoshima routes and Osaka/Itami–Okinawa/Naha route from 9,900 yen to 11,000 yen; on Tokyo/Haneda–Sapporo/Chitose, Fukuoka routes and Osaka/Itami–Sapporo/Chitose route from 12,100 yen to 13,200 yen; and on Tokyo/Haneda–Okinawa/Naha, Miyako, Ishigaki routes from 12,100 yen to 15,400 yen.
Same-day domestic upgrades are available exclusively to JAL Mileage Bank members and can be requested via the official website or app from 3 hours before departure up to 20 minutes before departure on the day of travel. If the flight is full, passengers can be placed on a waitlist. Miles are accrued based on the fare and class of the ticket purchased prior to the upgrade.
