Kobe Bussan and Gourmet Kineya will establish a joint venture company and acquire 15 in-flight catering companies in Asia and Micronesia.
The joint venture, MEAL HUB, will first be established with 100 percent investment by Kobe Bussan, after which Gourmet Kineya will participate through a capital increase. The expected shareholding ratio is approximately 82 percent for Kobe Bussan and 18 percent for Gourmet Kineya.
The companies to be acquired are LSG Sky Chefs New Zealand, CLS Catering Service, LSG Holding Asia, LSG Sky Chefs Hong Kong, LSG Catering China, LSG Sky Chefs Korea, LSG Catering (Thailand), Siam Flight Services, LSG Sky Chefs (Thailand), LSG Catering Guam, LSG Service Guam, LSG Catering Saipan, and three other companies, through which they will expand their business in New Zealand, Canada, Hong Kong, and other markets.
The shares will be acquired from three companies: Airline Catering & Retail Invest Asia Pacific, LSG Catering Investment Asia, and LSG Catering Hong Kong. The acquisition price has not been disclosed. The conclusion of the joint venture agreement and completion of the acquisitions are planned within fiscal year 2026 in Japan.
The LSG Group companies had previously been operated by the Lufthansa Group, but as part of Lufthansa’s focus on its core airline business, its Asia-Pacific operations were sold in 2023 to the investment firm Aurelius.
Gourmet Kineya entered the in-flight meal business at Kansai International Airport in Japan in 2003 through the acquisition of AAS Catering (AASK).
