American Airlines has issued a statement saying that it is not involved in, nor is it interested in, any discussions regarding a merger with United Airlines.
“While changes across the airline industry may sometimes be necessary, a merger with United Airlines would be detrimental to competition and consumers and, therefore, incompatible with our understanding of the administration’s philosophy toward the airline industry and the principles of antitrust law,” the company stated.
American Airlines Group posted a full-year net loss for 2025, as the impact of sluggish demand and high costs continues. The carrier’s high proportion of routes within the United States, where demand has been weaker compared to its international flights, has also been a contributing factor.
