Air India has unveiled the first refurbished Boeing 787-8 aircraft (registration: VT-ANT).
It is the first aircraft out of 26. After its interior refurbishment at Boeing’s facility in Victorville, California, USA, it received the new livery at a facility in San Bernardino, California.
The cabin has been changed from the previous two-class configuration to a three-class configuration featuring the latest seats and in-flight entertainment system. As a result, it now matches the widebody product standards of Air India’s latest Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
The cabin layout consists of 20 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, 25 Premium Economy Class seats in a 2-3-2 configuration, and 205 Economy Class seats in a 3-3-3 configuration, for a total of 270 seats. Monitor sizes are 17 inches, 13.3 inches, and 11.6 inches respectively, and each seat is equipped with USB-A/C power outlets.
The seats are Elevate Aircraft Seating’s “Ascent” in Business Class, Recaro Aircraft Seating’s “PL3530” in Premium Economy Class, and Recaro Aircraft Seating’s “CL3710” in Economy Class. The in-flight entertainment system is Thales’ “AVANT Up”.
The refurbishment took 45 days and approximately 12,835 man-hours, during which the old interior was removed, the cabin was reconfigured, and new seats, carpets, and wall materials were installed, along with galley and lavatory upgrades and subsequent testing. Painting took 18 days and over 5,700 hours. For the new seats throughout the cabin, 475 meters of fabric, 167 meters of synthetic leather, 169 meters of carpet, and 646 liters of paint were used.
