Southwest Airlines has unveiled “Independence One,” a special livery aircraft created to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The aircraft is a Boeing 737-8, registration number N1776R.
Painted in red, white, and blue, the aircraft features the founding year “1776” rendered in massive script reminiscent of a quill pen. Phrases from the Declaration of Independence, thirteen stars, and a ring of stars on the engine cowlings inspired by the original Betsy Ross flag complete the distinctive design.
Independence One will operate alongside “Freedom One,” which has been in service since 2021, and the newly introduced “Liberty One,” both of which also feature motifs of the American flag.
The inaugural flight was operated on April 29 from Southwest’s base in Dallas to Philadelphia, the birthplace of both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America.
