Lufthansa Launches Stopover Program via Munich for Singapore–USA Routes
Spirit Airlines, a U.S. low-cost carrier, has decided to suspend operations.
It has suspended all flights and shut down its customer service operations.
Passengers with reservations are being asked not to go to the airport. Although no alternative flights are being provided, refunds are being issued for paid reservations. Compensation for those who hold vouchers or credits will be determined through U.S. bankruptcy court proceedings.
Spirit Airlines is an ultra low-cost carrier (ULCC) established in 1980 in the United States. It initially operated leisure routes from Detroit and later expanded its network to destinations across the United States, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.
In 2022, the airline announced a planned merger with Frontier Airlines, which it later scrapped before announcing a merger with JetBlue Airways. In January 2024, a U.S. federal district court opposed the plan, leading the companies to terminate the merger plan. In November 2024, Spirit filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in U.S. federal bankruptcy court. After emerging from bankruptcy, it filed again in August 2025.
