GO, West Japan Railway Company (JR West), and JR West Rent-A-Car & Lease will set up, on a trial basis, a taxi stand exclusively for the taxi-hailing app “GO” on the first floor of JR Shin-Osaka Station in Osaka, Japan.
The stand will be installed as part of a demonstration experiment and will be located in front of the station rent-a-car office on the first floor of JR Shin-Osaka Station. The planned implementation period is from 1:00 p.m. on May 12 through July 31.
This will be the first app-exclusive taxi stand at a railway station in western Japan, and it represents a first step toward examining how to realize smooth connections between future autonomous taxis and railway stations.
When users select the Shin-Osaka Station area in the “GO” app, the dedicated stand will be set as the pick-up location. In this demonstration experiment, the companies will verify safety and operational issues, and they intend to use the knowledge gained to help concretely introduce autonomous taxis in the future.
