
Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Issues South America Advisory on Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome
The Embassy of Japan in China and the Consulates-General of Japan in various parts of China have issued safety and security information, urging caution after Japanese nationals were assaulted and injured in an office building in Shanghai, China.
The incident occurred around noon on May 19 at a Japanese restaurant located inside the Shanghai World Financial Center, in the financial district of Pudong. Three people, including two Japanese nationals, were attacked by an unknown assailant. The suspect has been taken into custody. According to reporting by NHK, the male suspect was carrying two fruit knives, but none of the injuries are life-threatening.
The Government of Japan has requested that the Government of China fully clarify the facts and provide a clear explanation, strictly punish the perpetrator, prevent any recurrence of similar incidents, and ensure the safety of Japanese nationals in China.
