Grandvista Hotel & Resorts will acquire the business of the former Hotel Kaifuto in Matsushima, Miyagi Prefecture, and reopen it under the new brand name “YOKI MATSUSHIMA” in August.
The building has 5 floors above ground. There are 26 guest rooms in total, comprising two types: 9 rooms with open-air baths and 17 rooms with semi open-air baths. Every room is equipped with a bath using Taiko Tensen Matsushima Onsen hot spring water, with views over Matsushima Bay. Inside the property, artworks themed around the islands and moon floating on the sea and pine trees are displayed, and walls that reuse oyster shells are installed. The hotel also features a rooftop observation bath and a large public bath with sauna, where guests can enjoy natural fragrances of wood and herbs. Meals showcase dishes prepared with seafood and vegetables from the Sanriku region, paired with local sake and served in tableware made using traditional crafts of Miyagi Prefecture. Experience programs are also offered, including craft beer tastings, Oku-Matsushima pleasure cruises, craft-making, local industry experiences, and seasonal events.
To commemorate the opening, the hotel is selling a “Standard Plan with Special Benefits, Limited to 5 Rooms per Day.” For a Japanese-Western style room with a semi open-air hot spring bath with free-flowing onsen water, rates start from 67,500 yen per person (including tax and service charge, with two meals), based on double occupancy. Guests staying under this plan will receive an original novelty gift. Reservations are already being accepted.
