Haneda Airport Launches Limited-Edition Goods Featuring “Suica Penguin” Illustrator Chiharu Sakazaki
Kansai Airports will open a new commercial area in the international departure zone of Terminal 1 at Kansai International Airport on June 2. The area was unveiled to the media ahead of the opening.
As the final phase of the renovation, a total of 24 outlets will open in the newly expanded north–south section of the international departure area, which began operation in December 2023. These include luxury brands, shops making their first appearance at any airport in Japan, retail stores offering character merchandise and local specialties, fast-food outlets, and a food court featuring Japanese cuisine.
The outlets opening are: Burberry, Loewe, Gentle Monster, Swatch, Omega, Tiffany, Issey Miyake, Moncler, Wolfgang Puck Kitchen Counter, Crystal Jade – Ramen & Xiaolongbao, Taste of Japan Kansai Travel Diary, UNIQLO, Washoku Japanese Cuisine, Burger King, FRESH, Kawaii Buzz, Sakura Voyage, KOBISTEAK Bifteki no Kawamura, Universal Studios Store, Bekkinsan., Kamameshi and Matcha “Tsumugi”, Fukujuen, Matsumoto Kiyoshi, and Tully’s Coffee.
At Doutonbori Kamukura inside the “Washoku Japanese Cuisine” food court, the menu includes dishes such as “Luxury Wagyu Ramen” (regular 3,290 yen, double 5,490 yen). At KOBISTEAK Bifteki no Kawamura, passengers can enjoy “Kobe Beef Steak Sandwich” (size S 9,900 yen, size W 19,250 yen). These premium dishes are designed so travelers can indulge right up until departure.
The renovation of Terminal 1 has been carried out in stages since May 2021, based on the core concepts of “enhancing international flight capacity,” “enriching the airside area,” and “improving the passenger experience.”
The new domestic area opened in October 2022, followed by the renewal of duty-free shops and the departure passport control area in December 2023. Upgrades to the security checkpoint, immigration area, and lounges are scheduled for March 2025. With this latest opening, the project will be complete, and the floor space in the central international area will be approximately 1.6 times larger than before the renovation. The commercial zone is divided into four areas with distinct atmospheres, allowing travelers to choose how they spend their time before boarding according to their mood.
