Philippine Airlines to Join oneworld Alliance
All Nippon Airways (ANA), the Lufthansa Group, and ITA Airways have announced that ITA Airways will join the joint venture operated by ANA and the Lufthansa Group starting this autumn.
This follows the approval of antitrust immunity (ATI) from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). A signing ceremony was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Annual General Meeting is being held.
From autumn onward, the Tokyo/Haneda–Rome route operated by ITA Airways with one round-trip flight per day will also be available for booking with joint fares.
The joint venture between ANA and the Lufthansa Group began in 2012, with SWISS International Air Lines and Austrian Airlines joining in 2013. Currently, 162 non-stop flights per week are operated between Japan and Europe, and with the participation of ITA Airways, this will expand to 176 round-trip flights per week. ITA Airways joined Star Alliance in April, and reciprocal mileage accrual and lounge access are already available.
