Narita International Airport (NAA) joined “BOOST,” an international innovation alliance in the field of passenger baggage handling, on June 10.
“BOOST” is an airport-led joint demonstration program aimed at the automation and efficiency improvement of baggage handling. It was launched in June 2024 through collaboration among Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, Seoul Incheon Airport, and Avinor of Norway. With the subsequent participation of Brussels Airport and Heathrow Airport, and now NAA, the alliance has grown to a total of six members.
By utilizing robotics and automation technologies, the alliance aims to reduce the physical burden on baggage handlers and improve operational efficiency. In addition, member airports share roles in conducting demonstrations, thereby working to solve challenges that were difficult to tackle by individual airports alone. At NAA, demonstration testing is underway to identify checked baggage owners using image analysis technology based on artificial intelligence, and the airport aims to implement this technology on-site through collaboration within the alliance.
