Air Canada Launches Commercial Flights with Airbus A321XLR
Etihad Airways has begun operating the Airbus A380 on its Tokyo/Narita–Abu Dhabi route. This is the first time the airline’s A380 has been deployed on a route to Japan. Flight EY800, the inaugural service that departed Abu Dhabi on June 17 local time (aircraft registration: A6-API), arrived at Narita Airport on the afternoon of June 18.
The Airbus A380 is configured with 3 The Residence suites, 9 First Class seats, 70 Business Class seats, and 405 Economy Class seats. The Residence, positioned as the highest class of service, is a “flying suite room” consisting of three separate areas—a living room, bedroom, and private bathroom—and can accommodate up to two guests. Tailor‑made service by dedicated staff is also provided.
Flight EY800 departed Abu Dhabi at 10:07 p.m. on June 17 and arrived at spot 26 at Narita Airport at 1:17 p.m. on June 18. The pilots displayed the national flags of both Japan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from the cockpit to celebrate the launch of the service.
Arik De, Etihad Airways’ Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer (CCO), commented, “The introduction of the A380 not only responds to the robust demand for premium travel between Abu Dhabi and Tokyo, but also further strengthens our commitment to the Japanese market.”
Etihad Airways currently operates seven Airbus A380 aircraft. In conjunction with the deployment on the Narita route, one stored aircraft will be returned to service, bringing the total to eight. At present, in addition to Tokyo/Narita in Japan, the A380 is operated to four cities—London, Paris, Toronto, and Singapore—and from October 25 it is also scheduled to be introduced on the Bangkok/Suvarnabhumi route.
