Sapporo Park Hotel to Close on February 28, 2027, Reconstruction Plan in Progress
Hyatt will introduce its luxury brand “Alila” in Japan for the first time, opening “Alila Sengokuhara Hakone” in 2028. Hyatt has signed an agreement with Fujita Corporation, part of the Daiwa House Group.
The building will have two stories above ground and two below. There will be 60 guest rooms in total, including 11 suites, and every room will feature a private bathroom with natural hot spring water. The spa area will be equipped with open-air baths, an aroma steam bath, and a mixed-gender thermal pool. The property will also offer a restaurant and bar, meeting and event spaces, and a yoga deck.
Architectural design supervision will be provided by Kengo Kuma & Associates, interior design by SIMPLICITY, and landscape design by PLACEMEDIA.
Respecting the approximately 8-meter difference in elevation of the Sengokuhara terrain, the structure will be divided into two volumes at different heights, adopting a design that blends the architecture into the surrounding forests and mountain ridges. At the entrance, gentle curves layered with delicate latticework will create light reminiscent of sunlight filtering through trees. The property is located in Sengokuhara within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, approximately a 25-minute drive from Hakone-Yumoto Station.
Alila is a luxury brand with 19 properties worldwide, including 13 in Asia, and all of its hotels have obtained EarthCheck certification. Hyatt currently operates 22 hotels under 9 brands in Japan, and with the introduction of Alila, the number of brands in Japan will increase to 10. The company plans to double the number of its properties in Japan over the next 10 years.
