American Express in Japan has revamped its “Platinum Card.”
The travel, dining, and entertainment-related benefits have been further enhanced, with five new benefits added. The annual fee remains unchanged at 165,000 yen (tax included).
For travel-related benefits, the renewal benefit “Premium Free Stay Gift,” which offers one complimentary night for two guests at a premium hotel in Japan (equivalent to 50,000 yen per night), will now provide an additional complimentary night when annual card spending reaches 5 million yen or more, for a maximum of two free nights.
In addition, the scope of hotel memberships has been expanded. From August, Okura Nikko Hotels’ “One Harmony Exclusive Member” status will be added, and from autumn onward, Gold status with “ALL Accor” is also scheduled to be added. These will be provided in addition to existing benefits such as Hilton Honors and Marriott Bonvoy.
As a welcome bonus for new cardmembers, an “Airline Credit” worth 100,000 yen is offered, which can be used when purchasing international airline tickets via American Express Travel Online. From the second year onward, this credit will be granted at each renewal for cardmembers whose annual spending reaches 5 million yen or more. It can be used on purchases of 300,000 yen or more.
For dining benefits, the Global Dining Cashback rate has been increased from 20% to 50%. At over 2,000 participating restaurants across 16 countries, 50% of the amount spent with the card will be refunded, up to a maximum of 40,000 yen per year.
In the entertainment area, through “Platinum Experiences,” American Express will offer various event opportunities, including early access to ticket applications for Platinum Card members and the ability for family cardmembers to apply as well. The dedicated Amex Experiences app for Platinum Card members, launched in April, provides up-to-date information on various events in a timely manner.
The previous enrollment and renewal benefit of a travel credit will end for new enrollments made by June 30 or renewals through June 30, 2027. The “2 for 1 Dining by Shotaibi Yori” benefit will end for usage through September 30, and the Luxury Shopping benefit will end on December 31. Overseas travel accident insurance will change from automatic coverage to usage-based coverage from October 1, and the attached golf insurance benefit will end at 4:00 p.m. on September 30.
To commemorate the renewal, a campaign is being held in which new cardmembers can earn a total of up to 225,000 points by meeting specified spending conditions.
