
Chubu Centrair International Airport Approved for New Runway Construction by MLIT
Kumamoto International Airport has closed the runway at Kumamoto Airport following an earthquake that struck the Kumamoto region of Kumamoto Prefecture at around 3:27 p.m. today, July 28.
As of 4:40 p.m., there is no indication of when operations will resume. Flights to and from Kumamoto have been diverted or canceled.
Airlines including Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA) have decided to cancel all flights departing from or arriving in Kumamoto from 5 p.m. onward. The airlines are urging passengers to check their websites and other sources for the latest flight operation information.
