Japan Airlines (JAL), J-AIR, Japan Air Commuter (JAC), Japan Transocean Air (JTA), and Ryukyu Air Commuter (RAC) will launch original flight tags on August 24 to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the World Natural Heritage listing of Amami-Oshima Island, Tokunoshima Island, the northern part of Okinawa Island, and Iriomote Island.
The area marked the fifth anniversary of its World Natural Heritage listing on July 26. It is home to many endemic and endangered species, including the Amami rabbit and Okinawa rail, and is known worldwide as a precious treasure trove of biodiversity.
The tags were conceived primarily by JAL Furusato Ambassadors from the Kagoshima Branch and Amami Sales Office, with the hope that people will help protect the precious “island treasures” together. They feature rare flora and fauna representing each area and are finished in designs unique to each airline, using colors that evoke the connection with local communities and the region’s rich natural environment.
The tags will be sold for 1,000 yen (tax included). Of this amount, 100 yen will be donated to nature conservation and animal protection organizations. They will be available through in-flight sales on each airline, as well as at various events.
