Haneda Airport Terminal 1 North Satellite Facility Opens

The North Satellite Facility at Haneda Airport Terminal 1 began operations on September 1. This is the first major facility expansion at Terminal 1 since it opened in September 1993. The first departure was Japan Airlines (JAL) flight JL565 to Memanbetsu, scheduled to depart at 7:05 a.m. The Boeing 737-800, registered JA314J, departed Spot 26 at 7:16 a.m. with 162 passengers on board.

The North Satellite Facility is connected to the north side of the main terminal near Gate 23. It has six aircraft stands, numbered 24 through 29. Skymark uses Stand 25, while Japan Airlines (JAL) uses Stands 26 through 28; Stand 29 is shared by both airlines. Stand 24 will not be used for the time being.

The cardholder lounge “FOREST LOUNGE” has also opened near Gate 26. With 22 seats, it is the first facility of its kind at Haneda Airport, combining a café and relaxation space. Drinks and light meals are also sold for takeout to non-lounge users. Holders of eligible credit cards may use the lounge free of charge, while standard admission is 1,320 yen for adults, 660 yen for children aged 4 to 12, and free for children aged 3 and under. The lounge also features a “Solari-style FIS,” a digital recreation of the flap-style flight information display boards once used at the airport.

For JAL flights, the North Satellite Facility will primarily be used by departing flights to destinations in Hokkaido, Tohoku, Hokuriku, Tokai, and Kansai. The nearest security checkpoints are E and F. Gates 26 through 29, used by JAL, are about 1,068 meters away—a roughly 16-minute walk—from Security Checkpoint E, and about 968 meters away—a roughly 15-minute walk—from Security Checkpoint F.

With the opening of the North Satellite, the seven airlines operating domestic flights to and from Haneda Airport—JAL, Japan Transocean Air (JTA), All Nippon Airways (ANA), Skymark, StarFlyer, Air Do, and Solaseed Air—changed their checked baggage drop-off deadline on the same day from the current 20 minutes before departure to 30 minutes before departure.

The first departure from Stand 27 was JAL flight JL153 to Misawa, scheduled for 8:05 a.m., while the first departure from Stand 28 was JAL flight JL541 to Kushiro, scheduled for 7:45 a.m. The first departure from Stand 25, used by Skymark, is scheduled to be Skymark flight BC307 to Kagoshima at 3:30 p.m. The first departure from shared Stand 29 is scheduled to be Skymark flight BC113 to Kobe at 5:55 p.m.
