UK Air Traffic Control Disruption Causes Widespread Flight Cancellations
oneworld has launched a partnership with the jet lag management app Timeshifter.
Customers who purchase a Round the World fare through the oneworld official website can use a complimentary Timeshifter subscription covering their entire itinerary. The service takes into account all flights and time zone changes from departure through return.
Based on circadian rhythm science, Timeshifter provides recommendations tailored to each user’s itinerary, usual sleep patterns, chronotype, and personal preferences. The app has more than 1.7 million users.
Jet lag is said to result not from a sleep problem, but from a temporary mismatch between the body’s circadian clock and the local time at the destination. Guided by light and darkness, the circadian clock synchronizes sleep, wakefulness, digestion, immune function, and other processes to a 24-hour cycle. When travelers cross multiple time zones, the light-dark cycle shifts by several hours, while the circadian clock naturally adjusts by only about one hour per day. Precisely managing when to seek and avoid light is therefore necessary.
Roger Blackburn, Vice President of Loyalty and Commerce at oneworld, commented, “Jet lag has a significant impact on health and wellbeing.” Mickey Beyer-Clausen, CEO of Timeshifter, said, “Timeshifter is used by astronauts, Formula 1 teams, and professional athletes.”
oneworld’s Round the World fares cover around 1,000 cities. Customers visit an average of seven cities, with trips lasting approximately three months.
