Japan Airlines (JAL), JALUX, and the Norwegian Seafood Council’s Japan office airlifted “Mackerel Nouveau” on September 11.
First imported in 2021, this marks the sixth year of the initiative. The mackerel are selected from Norwegian catches based on a fat content of around 30% and a weight of at least 500 grams, then airlifted to Japan without being frozen. The first shipment arrived the same day on JAL flight JL042 from London to Tokyo/Haneda.
In JAL International First Class, “Salt-Grilled Mackerel with Ginger Sauce” will be served from September 21 through October 31 as the first meal on flights from Osaka/Kansai to Bangkok and as the second meal on flights from Osaka/Kansai to Los Angeles.
At the “Norwegian Seafood Fest 2026,” a total of 5,200 complimentary servings of charcoal-grilled Mackerel Nouveau, Mackerel Nouveau sushi, salmon barbecue, and herring confit will be distributed. The event will be held from September 11 to 13 at Sky Arena on the 4th floor of Tokyo Solamachi, with food served from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
