Thai Airways Continues Passenger Support Amid Bangkok Flooding
Air France-KLM has submitted its final proposal to acquire up to a 49.9% stake in TAP Air Portugal.
The proposal is based on a strategic plan covering the entire business, including passenger transport, cargo, frequent-flyer programs, and MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul). It aims to support the implementation of TAP’s strategy and the development of Portugal’s aviation industry. The company says it will ensure long-term growth not only in Lisbon, but also in Porto and other cities across Portugal.
If selected, Air France-KLM would position Lisbon as its group’s sole Southern European hub, strengthening its global network. Its joint-venture partner Delta Air Lines and SkyTeam also fully support the proposal, sharing a policy of enhancing Portugal’s connectivity, particularly in the North Atlantic market.
Benjamin Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Air France-KLM, commented, “Interest in TAP Air Portugal has never been stronger. Over the past four weeks, our teams and advisors have worked to strengthen our proposal. We are convinced that this revised proposal is the best path forward for TAP Air Portugal and its management, employees, customers, and Portugal.” He added, “What we are presenting is an ambitious long-term strategic plan that positions TAP in the best possible way for the future while safeguarding Portugal’s connectivity and sovereignty.”
Air France-KLM said it is awaiting the Portuguese government’s final decision.
