Rakuten Securities and Rakuten Card will raise the points reward rate to up to 3.2% for credit card payments made with the Rakuten Black Card for investment trust savings plans through Rakuten Securities.
The higher rate applies to customers whose annual Rakuten Card shopping spend was JPY 4 million or more between January 1 and December 31 of the year preceding the month of their savings purchase. Customers spending less than JPY 4 million will continue to receive 2.0%. At the 3.2% rate, customers can earn up to 38,400 points per year. The change will apply from savings purchases made in January 2027 (for savings plans set up on or after November 13).
If a customer switches from another card type to the Rakuten Black Card during the year, spending before the switch will also be combined when determining annual shopping spend. Purchases of investment trusts through Rakuten Securities are excluded from annual spending calculations.
Since October 2018, the two companies have offered a service allowing customers to make recurring investment trust purchases using Rakuten Card credit card payments. Customers can invest up to JPY 100,000 per month and earn Rakuten Points at rates ranging from 0.5% to 2.0% of their investment amount. As of August, the service was used by more than 4 million customers.
