Japan Airlines (JAL) reopened its renovated “JAL First Class Lounge” and “Sakura Lounge” in the North Wing of Terminal 1 at Tokyo Haneda Airport on October 8. This article introduces, in photos, the various areas of the new Sakura Lounge, unveiled during a media preview held ahead of its opening. (For a photo report on the First Class Lounge, click here.)
The renewed lounge concept is “Functional Beauty × Regenerative Beauty.” The lounge is divided into three areas—dining, relaxing, and working—allowing passengers to choose seating according to how they wish to spend their time before boarding. The two open dining areas offer seats suitable for short stays as well as sofa seating for relaxing at leisure.
The working area is located next to an exit that leads directly to the boarding gates, and includes semi-private work booths and phone booths. A new kids’ room supervised by BorneLund, a company that develops and sells educational toys, has also been added for families.
“ART CANVAS” within the lounge permanently displays artworks by artists represented by Heralbony. Aircraft windows, seat fabrics, and wine bottles previously used in the lounge have been upcycled into furniture, art, and interior materials. Exhibits also include kinetic artworks that geometrically express the movement of living creatures’ wings.
Operating hours are from 5:15 a.m. until the departure of the final flight. Available refreshments include soft drinks, tea, “Nomu Odashi” drinkable dashi broth, beer, wine, sake, and snacks. Lockers, massage chairs, and a smoking room are also available. The shower rooms shared with the JAL First Class Lounge allow passengers to check availability and make reservations via smartphone. Two fully private nursing rooms equipped with diaper-changing tables and hot-water dispensers for preparing infant formula have also been added.
The “Diamond Premier Lounge” and “Sakura Lounge” in the South Wing closed for renovation on October 8 and are scheduled to reopen around June 2027. (21 photos below)
