Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport Partially Resumes Operations
Fukuoka International Airport (FIAC) announced on October 27 that it has decided on “TABISIA” as the name of a new mixed-use complex directly connected to the domestic terminal building at Fukuoka Airport.
The complex will center on commercial facilities and also include a hotel, a bus terminal, and boarding and alighting areas for buses connecting the domestic and international terminals. It will have a total floor area of approximately 43,300 square meters, including around 11,300 square meters of commercial space. Total project costs are estimated at approximately JPY 45 billion. The 11-story building will house around 180 stores. Combined with the existing stores in the domestic terminal building, the airport will have around 280 stores, making it one of Japan’s largest airports in terms of the number of stores accessible to people who are not flying. The project aims to transform Fukuoka Airport from a transportation hub into an “airport city” where diverse people can gather and interact.
The name is a coined word combining “TABI” (travel), “ASIA,” and “FANTASIA,” meaning imagination or fantasy. The logo is inspired by immigration stamps, with a nine-sided frame representing the airport’s role as the gateway to Kyushu.
The commercial facilities will occupy the first through fourth floors. The first floor will feature travel goods and service stores, as well as a supermarket that can also be used by local residents. The second floor will be an area featuring food products and crafts mainly from Fukuoka and Kyushu, along with a food-to-go gourmet zone and areas for fashion and miscellaneous goods. The third floor will offer Japanese character merchandise and experiential content.
The fourth floor will house “ASIYONG,” one of Japan’s largest Asian food floors. It will have a floor area of approximately 7,200 square meters, with 44 outlets and around 700 seats. It will serve cuisine from South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Japan. The floor will include restaurant, food court, and yokocho-style dining alley zones, with seven brands making their first entry into Japan. From Taiwan, these will include chocolate specialty store “YU CHOCOLATIER,” shaved ice with glutinous rice balls outlet “Yu Pin Yuan Bing Huo Tang Yuan,” beef noodle specialty restaurant “Qing Zhen Zhongguo Beef Noodle Restaurant,” wonton specialty restaurant “Qi Fu Bian Shi,” and Taiwanese dessert shop “Chun Mei Bing Guo Shi.” From Thailand, they will include Pad Thai specialty restaurant “Pad Thai Fai Ta Lu” and khao soi specialty restaurant “Ong Tong Khao Soi.” Of these, Yu Pin Yuan Bing Huo Tang Yuan, Qing Zhen Zhongguo Beef Noodle Restaurant, Pad Thai Fai Ta Lu, and Ong Tong Khao Soi have been selected for the Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand.
Floors five through 11 will house the Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Fukuoka Airport (tentative name). The hotel will have 165 guest rooms, with runway and aircraft views available from the upper floors. It will also feature a large public bath with a sauna and a fitness facility.
Design supervision will be handled by a joint venture of Azusa Sekkei, Kengo Kuma and Associates, and Nishinihon Engineering Consultants, while Taisei Corporation will be responsible for construction. Completion is scheduled for around spring 2027, with a grand opening planned for around summer 2027.
